Description from the seller
Rare Elite Bed Linen Set from the 1930s: Monumental Double-Bed Sheet and Two Coordinated Pillow Shams in Richelieu-style Embroidery and Handmade Filet Lace
Beautiful double-bed bedding set dating from the 1930s, an authentic masterpiece of textile craftsmanship and high-era artisanal tailoring.
The sheet measures a very large 300 x 280 cm, in top-quality vintage cotton yarn, heavy and sturdy.
The body of the sheet is not a single industrial panel, but is masterfully composed of three pieces joined along its length.
The seams are joined with tailor-made stitches done entirely by hand, with ultra-fine and virtually invisible stitches, a hallmark of artisanal work on period looms.
The upper ruffle is enriched by a sumptuous Richelieu-style embroidery done by hand. Inside the cutout are 38 large, rich floral motifs (diameter 10 cm) with 8 petals, all worked in filet stitch. The fusion of the Richelieu cutout with the filet mesh insert represents the apex of textile mastery of the period.
The set includes its two coordinating pillow shams in the exact same thread and fabric as the base. Each sham shows substantial workmanship, decorated with 46 flowers each (diameter 7 cm) using the same cutout and filet technique, for a total of 92 hand-worked micro-inserts.
Condition: The set presents in overall excellent condition; the fabric is solid and the white is pristine. There is, for utmost precision and transparency, a very small stain (likely rust or from a hope chest) of only a few millimeters in diameter on one of the two pillow shams. Unique piece for a high-end collection.
