Prestigious Damask Double Bedspread from San Leucio with Original Passementerie – Handcrafted – 1950s
Extraordinary and elegant double bedspread coming from the famous textile tradition of San Leucio (Caserta), one of the most important European centers for luxury fabrics destined for noble residences, historic palaces and royal households.
Made around the fifties, this magnificent piece measures 220 × 260 cm and is characterized by a sumptuous damask weave executed on a Jacquard loom with a iridescent finish. The refined sugar-paper blue / dove blue color enhances the richly ornamental design, which varies gracefully with light thanks to the contrast between a matte background and glossy motifs.
The decorative layout recalls the great French upholstery fabrics in the Louis XIV and Baroque taste, with a prominent central medallion framed by a floral garland, surrounded by acanthus leaves, volutes, phytomorphic elements and perfectly symmetrical ornamental motifs.
Particularly valuable is the monumental original passementerie applied along the edge, completed by a refined hand-woven fringe with decorative tassels that confer additional grandeur to the artifact.
An element of absolute interest is the presence, woven directly into the selvage, of the inscription "Lavorazione a Mano" (Handmade), together with the inscriptions "Coperta Damasco" and "S.
