Ritual objects - Djenné-culture - Mali

A fine collection of archeological ritual objects from Mali. These objects were given as gravegifts to deceased family members as necessary for the afterlife. During flooding of the river Niger old settlements are washed up and these objects become visible. The largest pot is 17 cm high and the samll red pot is 11 cm high. The tiny symbolic pot with the hole inside could be worn around the neck as a protective amulet. 45 mm high.
The round "wheel' with the holes inside , function unknown, is 11,5 cm wide. Finally the most striking object is the round pot decorated with three snakes acting as a protective charm. Dim.; 85 x 90 mm.
All objects were collected in Mali in the late 1990,s and come from a private Dutch collection.
