Rare and decorative square coaster or plant stand from the famous French manufacturer Émaux de Longwy, made according to the traditional cloisonné enamel technique on fine crackled earthenware. The manufacturer, founded in 1798, gained international fame with its colorful enameled decorations, inspired by Chinese and Japanese art.
This piece features a refined central motif of a colorful pheasant among blooming chrysanthemums, surrounded by a richly worked geometric and floral border in turquoise, cobalt blue, green and burgundy. The fine crackle background forms an elegant contrast with the vivid enamel colors.
On the underside lies the handwritten decor number D.3277. The piece rests on four integrated feet, allowing it to be used both as a coaster for a cachepot or vase and as a standalone decorative object. Numbered Longwy decors are characteristic of production in the late 19th and early 20th century.
