Description from the seller
The model: This is a silver miniature replica of a Phinisi (often spelled Pinisi), a traditional Indonesian sailing vessel with two masts. The sticker on the bottom confirms this with the text: "Kapal Phinisi" (which literally translates from Indonesian to "Phinisi ship").
The craftsmanship: The ship is made with the filigree technique (in Indonesia known as kerajinan perak filigri). This is a refined method for working precious metals, where ultra-thin silver wires are twisted, woven and soldered together to form delicate, lace-like patterns.
2. Origin and maker
The maker: The sticker on the bottom reads "CV. ANSOR'S SILVER". Ansor Silver is a very well-known and respected silversmith located in Kotagede, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Kotagede is worldwide known as the historic center of Indonesian silver filigree.
The markings:
The sticker shows an article or stock code: ASG669018.
On the small rectangular plate soldered to the sail, the stamp 925 is found. This is the international hallmark for Sterling silver. This means the ship is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper) to give the material strength.
3. Presentation and value
This kind of silver filigree ships on a velvet-covered wooden base are traditional, exclusive Indonesian artworks. They are highly sought after as luxury corporate gifts, diplomatic gifts, or high-quality souvenirs that represent Indonesia's maritime heritage and refined craftsmanship.
