Description from the seller

Beautiful 19th-century cast-iron fire dogs (also known as hearth dogs or chenets), designed as a female bust depicting the allegory of Terre (Earth). These fireplace accessories are placed in an open fireplace. The iron bars at the back support the logs. This ensures better airflow beneath the fire and prevents burning wood from rolling into the room.
The base of the bust bears the French inscription "TERRE". This type originally often formed part of a 19th-century series of fire dogs that depicted the different elements (such as Terre and Air).
They are cast in a French Neo-style (19th-century style), characterized by the classical draperies and the intricately braided hair.
Dimensions: 31 cm long, 11 cm wide, and 20 cm high. In excellent condition.
