Yasuhiro Ishimoto - Tokyo - 1971

After returning from Chicago, in the 1960s Ishimoto was highly active in Tokyo, holding exhibitions, writing magazine columns, and publishing photobooks. Taken around that time, the photographs featured in this book portray Tokyo against the backdrop of rapid economic growth. People going about their daily activities in a corner of the chaotic city; streets overflowing with visual information in the form of TV images and advertisements; natural and artificial elements contrasting with each other; disquieting dark shadows on the ground and on walls.

Part of the "Eizo no gendai" series (volume 8). Includes text by the artist in Japanese, with translations in English and a text by the legendary editor, Shoji Yamagishi.

Copy with obi (bellyband) and original acetate dust jacket. Some foxing to boards and first/last pages but copy otherwise in good condition.
