Description from the seller
Rare Antique Wooden Hand-Stereoscope (Model ICA / Unis France) – 1910s
A stunning antique wooden stereoscope viewer from the early 20th century (circa 1910–1920).
This model is made from high-quality, warmly polished wood and is equipped with the characteristic large black adjustment knobs on the side for focusing.
On the right side is the vertical slot with the original metal sliding mechanism to smoothly insert glass stereographs (stereograms).
This particular model is identical to the famous Hand-Stereoscope by the German top brand ICA (Internationale Camera A.G.) from Dresden, but contains no physical mark or ICA star. In the early days of photography this was very common. Such high-end viewers were often produced as 'unbranded' for the so-called white-label sales. Luxurious opticians and photography shops in Europe would buy these lots to then apply their own shop name.
Additionally, any superficial gold embossing over the past 100 years may have faded due to use and polishing. This does not diminish the authentic quality and historical value of the object.
The viewer is in very nice, original condition with a beautiful patina on the wood. The mechanism works properly and the lenses are clear. See the photos for a good personal impression of the details.
Suitable for viewing antique (glass) stereophotos 6x13 cm.
