Description
An enchanting pair of hand-painted majolica plates, expression of the Italian folk ceramic tradition of the 20th century. Both feature a spontaneous and tactile decoration, rendered in vivid shades of green and blue on an ivory background.
The first plate is adorned with a central motif depicting a cluster of grapes, while the second presents a stylized landscape with houses and a plant recalling the prickly pear, elements typical of the rural Mediterranean imagination.
The glaze irregularities, natural crazing, and light wear along the edges testify to the artisanal workmanship and the passage of time, lending the lot notable decorative charm. Ideal for wall display or to be added to a collection of traditional ceramics.

Condition
Generally good condition for its age. They show signs of wear, widespread crazing, small chips and abrasions along the edges, and minor firing and glaze imperfections, compatible with handmade production. No obvious restorations detected.

Monochrome-decorated maiolicas represent one of the most characteristic productions of 20th-century Italian ceramics, inspired by antique Renaissance maiolicas. Many artisan laboratories reinterpret these models with rural landscapes, religious buildings, trees and floral motifs executed with spontaneous, immediate painting.
Each piece was decorated individually by hand before the second firing, which is why small differences in stroke, shading and motif arrangement are to be considered indicators of artisanal authenticity.
