Material, Technique and Manufacturing

Material: It is solid bronze of high quality. The greenish exterior patina is the natural oxidation of copper (verdigris) and has been applied artistically to highlight the fur textures, letting lighter golden-bronze tones show in the higher-relief areas (such as the muzzle and the flanks).

Weight: Weighs 2,740 grams for a figure of about 22-23 cm, confirming that it is a solid piece (or has extremely thick walls).

Manufacturing Technique:

If you look at the second image (the detail of the front leg), you can clearly see a mold-seam line (flash) running along the edge of the leg. This indicates it was made with a two-part mold (sand casting or rigid mold), a classic method of industrial or semi-industrial production from the late 19th century through the entire 20th century.

The base (tail and hind legs resting) has a threaded hole on the bottom. This hole was used to anchor the sculpture to a marble, wood, or stone plinth, which has since been lost.

2. Era and Style

Style: The design is historicist/neoclassical in nature, with a stylized representation of the classic rampant or rearing horse. The fur texture is strongly marked with parallel lines,

e Era: Mid-20th century (1950s to 1970s).

This type of rampant-horse models freely drew inspiration from famous sculptures (such as the Marly Horses by Guillaume Coustou or neoclassical equestrian sculptures) and were reproduced by artistic foundries in Spain, France and Italy for the interior décor market.
