The silver proof design for a 1 Gulden 1928 by J.C. Wieneke is a legendary rarity in Dutch numismatics.
This trial design originated during a turbulent period at the Mint. Mint masters at the time disagreed with the decision to have the modern artist Huib Luns design the new coin series. Because J.C. Wieneke had long been the Mint’s regular designer, he, in response to this, produced his own alternative designs for the gulden and other denominations.
