AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful late-19th-century (ca. 1880) patinated bronze "Grand Tour" souvenir figurine, depicting Saint Peter seated on his throne. This object is a detailed miniature replica of the iconic thirteenth-century bronze monument by Arnolfo di Cambio in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Peter is depicted with his traditional attributes: the keys of heaven in his left hand, while his right hand is raised in a blessing gesture. The front of the pedestal features the cast-in text "ROMA", testifying to its origin as a travel souvenir for well-to-do Europeans during their Grand Tour.

The underside shows an authentic hollow casting with historical manual filing marks on the base ring. On top of the head is the original mounting hole where, at the time, a loose aureole (radiant halo) was attached.

In good, original condition with a nicely aged, dark patina. Appropriate signs of age consistent with its era. As is customary with these miniatures, the loose metal aureole (radiant halo) has been lost over time.
