Grande ceremonial statue by Jama Coaque from Ecuador, made of terracotta with a beige-brown engobe, 27.6 cm high and 14.2 cm wide, dating to 300 BCE–300 CE, in good condition and authentic, acquired in 2025 from a German gallery (Galerie/Antiquaire) with provenance traceable to Germany.
Description from the seller
Large ceremonial statuette depicting a standing young man.
He wears a traditional headdress and is adorned with a broad necklace and bracelets
His skull is deformed toward the back, a distinctive sign of high-status individuals.

Terracotta with beige and brown engobe glaze, fired.
Height 27.6 cm, width 14.2 cm
Excellent conservation condition, minimal restoration to the torso
Provenance: Germany, M.H.L. Gallery.
Previous provenance history, German collection acquired before 1980
Accompanied by an invoice dating from the 1970s
