This pair of hangings dates from the late 19th century.

The designs depict an aquatic landscape with lotus flowers in full bloom, reeds and cranes, motifs highly symbolic in traditional Chinese art.

The crane evokes longevity and wisdom.

The embroidery work displays a fine execution and subtle color gradients.

These panels were intended to adorn the aristocratic interiors of China in the 19th century.

Despite some wear, they are in good condition.
