Description from the seller

Zeeland – Silver Rider 1748

Silver Rider, struck in 1748.

Weight: 28.05 grams
Diameter: 42 mm
Metal: silver
Mint mark: fortress
Master of the mint: Pieter Kappeyne
Mint master’s decoration: three rosettes (six-pointed stars)

Front:
Armoured and helmeted knight, standing to the right. Over his right shoulder he carries a sword. With his left hand he holds, by a braided cord, the front-placed and crowned provincial coat of arms of Zeeland.

Inscription:
MO•NO•ARG•PRO•CON•FOE•BELG•COM•ZEL•

Full: Moneta Nova Argentea Provinciarum Confoederatarum Belgii Comitatus Zelandiae.

Translation: New silver coin of the county of Zeeland in the United Provinces of the Netherlands.

Reverse:
Crowned Generality’s coat of arms, flanked by the year 17–48. Above the arms are three rosettes (six-pointed stars), the mint master’s mark of Pieter Kappeyne.

Inscription:
CONCORDIA•RES•PARVÆ•CRESCUNT•

Translation: Through unity, small things grow.

Exceptionally attractive specimen, with only minimal wear on the highest parts. Sharp striking with excellently preserved details in the knight, the arms and the inscriptions. This specimen also shows a light incuse strike, whereby parts of the obverse have been subtly pressed into the reverse. This production deviation occurring during striking is clearly noticeable and forms an interesting peculiarity without detracting from the exceptional quality of the piece.
