Unbranded 35 glass slides for a Magic Lantern, comprising 19 long story/panoramic strips and 16 square artistic miniatures with their original textured storage box, long slides about 18 × 5 cm and square slides about 8.5 × 8.5 cm, in good physical condition and not tested functionally, with wear to the borders and a vertical crack in slide No. 9, plus minor surface scratches on the square slides.
Description from the seller
An exceptional and large estate collection of antique glass slides for a Magic Lantern (Laterna Magica), dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century.
The collection consists of 35 glass elements split into two distinct formats, complete with their rare original textured storage box:
1. Long Story & Panorama Strips (19 pieces total):
- 12 numbered strips (No. 1 to No. 12) in red cardboard frames, each containing 4 circular lithographed and hand-colored illustrations. Sequential narrative fairy tales and fables marked with German text (e.g., "Taf. IV", "Taf. IX", "Taf. XII").
- 6 various long strips featuring continuous panoramic illustrations of children playing, winter scenes, and village life.
- 1 separate strip in a pink frame with 4 circular slides showing Eastern/Oriental motifs.
2. Square Artistic Miniatures (16 pieces total):
- Individual glass square slides with black perimeter masking, framing highly detailed paintings (ships, lighthouses, desert scenes, and castles).
Long glass slides: approximately 18 × 5 cm.
Square glass slides: approximately 8.5 × 8.5 cm.
Condition Report:
All glass images remain bright and vividly colored. Due to age, cardboard borders show wear and fraying. Slide No. 9 (storks) has a clean vertical crack through one image panel, which has been stabilized. The square slides have minor surface scratches and expected flaking of the black border paint. The original box shows age-related wear but is structurally intact. Please examine the photos closely as they form a vital part of the description.
