The motif “Chaîne d’Ancre” was born in 1938 when Robert Dumas, son-in-law of Émile-Maurice Hermès, designed the famous bracelet inspired by a ship’s anchor chain. The “ancre” maritime iconsoon became an icon of the Maison, a symbol of travel, adventure and nautical elegance. Since the 1950s Hermès began to render the motif on silverware and tableware, entrusting production to the best French silversmiths: Christofle, Ercuis, Puiforcat. Much appreciated in the 1960s by Parisian elites for entertaining, today it is among Hermès vintage lines most sought after by international collectors.
