Silvana ceramic - Pharmacy jar - Ceramic

An impressive and highly decorative hand-painted faience apothecary jar by Sylvena, Belgium, created in the traditional European pharmacy style during the mid-20th century.
This elegant lidded jar bears the inscription “SALVIA OFF.”, referring to Salvia officinalis (common sage), a medicinal herb historically stored in pharmacy jars. Beautifully decorated with hand-painted green acanthus foliage, ochre borders and traditional calligraphic lettering, it reflects the timeless aesthetic of classic European apothecary ceramics.
Standing 38 cm high, this is a substantial and eye-catching piece, equally suitable for collectors of antique-style pharmacy ware, decorative interiors, or traditional ceramic art.
The underside is marked “Sylvena” together with the model reference D4042.
The jar remains in excellent vintage condition, with no visible chips, cracks or restorations. Minor signs of age and manufacture are consistent with hand-crafted faience and contribute to its authenticity and character.
