Description from the seller

Antique wrought-iron baby cot – Liberty/Industrial style – Late 19th / Early 20th century

Fascinating and rare antique baby cot (or display cradle) made entirely of wrought iron and metal profiles, dating to the late 19th century or early 20th century. This piece stands out for the elegance of its curved lines and the robustness typical of artisanal production of the era.

Aesthetic and Structural Details

Design: The headboard and footboard feature refined scrollwork and heart motifs, typical of the floral or Liberty taste. At the center of the headboard is a solid circular element (roundel), originally intended for heraldic devices or painted decorations.

Support surface: The mesh consists of a dense interwoven metal grid, still intact and solid.

Frame: The structure rests on four legs with original metal wheels, fully functional, facilitating movement. The side rails are characterized by a geometric grille that balances the curved decorations at the ends.

Finish: The metal shows a splendid authentic patina in natural zinc/iron gray, with light signs of aging that enhance its industrial chic character and certify its antiquity.

Conditions

The object presents in excellent condition considering its age. The framework is solid and stable. There are no obvious structural breaks, only natural surface oxidation that adds charm and authenticity to the piece. (Please look carefully at the photos, which are an integral part of the description).

Recommended Uses

In addition to its original purpose, this cot is an exceptional furnishing element for:

Interior Design: as a magazine rack, display stand for cushions or plants in an industrial-style loft.

Retail/Window Display: perfect as a scenic support for children’s clothing stores or antique furnishings.

Collecting: a piece of the history of domestic material culture between the 1800s and 1900s.

Technical Features

• Material: Wrought iron, metal mesh.
• Era: circa 1890-1920.
• Origin: Europe (likely Italian or French manufacture).
• Extras: Original iron wheels.
