Large Wall-Mounted Coat Rack for Entrance in Solid Wood and Brass – Umbertine Style / Early 1900s
Exclusive and imposing wall coat rack (or entrance panel in boiserie), superb testimony of Italian cabinetmaking from the late 19th century / early 20th century (full Umbertine period or early 1900s).
This refined piece of furniture is entirely crafted in high-quality solid wood (presumably stained walnut or chestnut), characterized by a warm and deep dark tone that highlights the natural grain of the wood.
The structure presents a classical and rigorous architectural line:
At the top rises an impressive molded crown profile, typical of aristocratic furnishings of the era.
Right below sits a practical hat shelf or hat rack, supported on both sides by two sturdy curved tubular supports in solid brass.
The central body is divided into elegant geometric paneled sections, framed by raised geometric profiles.
The base rests on an protruding wooden plinth, solid and well squared.
Details of hardware
The coat rack is equipped with 5 majestic double hooks (with a long upper hook and a lower ring for umbrellas or bags) made in cast/brunished brass with distinctly antique charm. The hardware bears a beautiful patina of time.
Condition
The piece presents good structural and general conservation conditions, solid and ready to be hung. Being an authentic antique item, it shows the normal and fascinating signs of time that attest to its history:
On the left lateral profile of the wood there are some superficial abrasions and traces of white paint/plaster (easily removable with light restoration or cleaning).
The top surface of the shelf and the base display a natural patina of wear and antique dust.
Some mounting screws for the brass hooks have been partially replaced over time for maintenance (as visible in the detailed photos, some hooks have newer slotted screws and others period screws).
