Description from the seller

An elegant Chinese black lacquer pen box dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century, finely decorated in gilt with a charming continuous scene depicting four figures within a traditional garden setting, surrounded by flowering plants, trees, ornamental rocks, and a pavilion. The delicate decoration and balanced composition reflect the refined taste of Qing dynasty decorative arts.

The interior is fitted with its original compartments for storing brushes, pens, ink sticks, and other writing implements, making it both a practical and decorative scholar’s desk accessory. The box retains its original black lacquer surface with an attractive aged patina, while the gilt decoration remains clearly visible despite its age.

Dimensions

* Length: 19.8 cm
* Width: 5.8 cm
* Height: 3.8 cm

Condition
Overall in good antique condition with age-related wear. There are areas of lacquer loss and rubbing, particularly to the corners and edges, together with minor losses to the gilt decoration, consistent with age and long-term use. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed impression of the condition.
