Tiered Sirigé Dogon mask

In African art, this mask is striking for its height, reaching several meters.

It represents the Ginna, in other words the house of the "great family" which is the seat of the patrilineal lineage.

The Sirige mask "long, tall", or awa danu "high wooden mask", is commonly compared to a "tiered house", that is to say a house with multiple stories, with a partitioned façade, such as only certain chiefs or wealthy men can possess.

It also symbolizes the Great Serpent, yam babala, who accompanied the Dogon in their migration to the Bandiagara cliffs in the 15th century.

Il représente le Ginna, autrement dit la maison de la "grande famille" qui est, le siège du lignage patrilinéaire.

Le masque sirige "long, haut", ou awa danu "masque de bois haut", est comparé communément à une "maison à étage", c'est à dire une maison pourvue d'un étage, à façade compartimentée, telle que seuls peuvent en posséder certains chefs ou hommes opulents.

Il symbolise également le Grand Serpent, yam babala, qui suivit les dogon dans leur migration vers les falaises de bandiagara au XV siècle. Ce masque est composé de deux éléments reliés entre
