The Shamrock yacht was, during the 1899 America's Cup, the Royal Ulster Yacht Club's challenger, opposing the defender sloop Columbia.
The Shamrock's plans were drawn by the Scottish architect William Fife III in 1898 at the request of Sir Thomas Lipton. Construction was carried out by J. Thorneycroft Co. of Church Wharf. Due to the boat’s large size, construction took place at Millwall (London), in the utmost secrecy. It was launched on 24 June 1899.
In the run-up to the America's Cup, it faced Valkyrie III, the 1895 challenger, and defeated Britannia, Her Majesty's yacht, twice in regattas at the Isle of Wight.
In the summer of 1899, representing the Royal Ulster Yacht Club, it faced in New York the defender Columbia.
