Description from the seller
Refined pair of two-light wall sconces made of carved and gilded wood, conceived according to the stylistic modules and the elegant asymmetries of Italian Rococo from the mid-18th century. The structure is centered on a shaped and mirrored glass, enclosed by an exuberant frame of inverted volutes, acanthus leaves and carved friezes.
The upper part (cimasa) is dominated by a rich carved seashell with a central fretwork cutout and palmette patterns, while the lower part gathers the point of attachment for the two candlestick arms. The arms, also in carved wood with vegetal motifs, bend outward, ending in moulded plaques and shaped candlestick sockets.
The luminous effect is amplified by the reflection of light on the central mirror, a typical element of girandoles and salon wall lamps designed to embellish walls and boiserie. The gold leaf finish shows a pleasant antique patina that lends warmth and depth to the carving.
