Description from the seller
Rare carved-ivory (?) axe with drilled hole made from reindeer horn from Jutland, Denmark. These objects were kept only in exceptional circumstances. As with later combat axes, a hole was drilled using bamboo and abrasive to fasten the axe into a piece of wood. The oblique edge was used for chopping. According to research, this type of tool would have been used to skin larger animals during slaughter. This piece is in exceptionally good condition and shows nice signs of use. No restorations or recent fractures. Expertly stabilized. Related to the Northern German Ellerbek culture and the Swifterbant culture known in the Netherlands and Belgium. Dimensions: 150 x 83 mm. With every sold lot an authenticity certificate is provided.

The seller guarantees that he acquired this lot legally.
The lot comes from a Belgian collection.
Important information:
The seller guarantees that he is authorized to ship this lot.
