Figural mantel clock - Marble, Brass - 1850-1900

French Napoleon III-style mantel clock, made in the late 19th century, roughly between 1870 and 1900.

It features a black marble architectural case, adorned on the sides with veined red marble plaques. The enamel dial, with Roman numerals, is framed by a gilded metal bezel with relief decoration.

The top is surmounted by a patinated metal female figure, depicted in period attire and holding a jug. The composition reflects the historicist taste characteristic of late 19th-century French decorative clockmaking.

On the dial there is a partially legible inscription, possibly corresponding to the clockmaker’s name or the shop. Due to wear and the size of the letters, identification could not be secured.

The base rests on ornate metal feet and features a discreet engraved decoration on the front area.

Conservation status:

Good overall condition, with surface wear, small marks and patina in keeping with its age. The marble remains structurally stable, with no major visible fractures.

There are signs that the upper figure detached from the base at some point and was re-fixed. This intervention is little visible at the joint, although the figure is currently secured and stable.

The figure shows aged patina and some tone variations typical of the passage of time.

The operation of the mechanism has not been tested, so the clock is offered as untested and may require inspection, cleaning, or adjustment by a specialist clockmaker.
