Description from the seller

This lot brings together two substantial Michael Jackson photo books, offered as a set.

Book 1: "Michael Jackson: The Auction / Vente aux enchères" by Arno Bani (Japanese edition, published by Sekaibunkasha, in association with Pierre Bergé & Associés)
In July 1999, Michael Jackson personally selected the then 23-year-old fashion photographer Arno Bani for an exceptional and secret two-day photo shoot in Paris. The session produced 700 exclusive images, none of which were seen by the public until this catalog was released in conjunction with the December 2010 Pierre Bergé auction in Paris — the year following Jackson's death. The book includes large-format portraits and complete annotated contact sheets, offering an intimate look at a collaboration Jackson intended for the artwork of his 2001 album "Invincible." A striking hardcover volume with a distinctive blue-tinted cover portrait.

Book 2: "Michael Jackson: The King of Pop 1958–2009" (Seishisha)
Published in Japan following Michael Jackson's passing in 2009, this book traces his extraordinary career from childhood stardom with the Jackson 5 through his solo reign as the "King of Pop." Featuring a striking gold-foil cover design and black-and-white as well as color photography, it offers fans a visual retrospective of one of the most influential entertainers in music history. Text is presented in Japanese, with the title and key captions in English.

Together, this set offers collectors both a career-spanning tribute and an exclusive, behind-the-scenes photographic document of Michael Jackson's final years.

Artist Profile
Arno Bani アルノ・バニ (French photographer) began his career in Paris before moving into fashion and beauty photography in Sweden at a young age. His work was discovered and published by Isabella Blow of the Sunday Times, and it was through these fashion pages that Michael Jackson first noticed Bani's photography. In 1999, Jackson invited Bani, then just 23 years old, to define his visual "look" and photograph him in a series of elaborate staged scenarios, working alongside collaborators from Yves Saint Laurent, François Lesage, and other leading fashion names. This collaboration is considered a defining moment in Bani's career and remains one of the last major photographic documents of Michael Jackson.
