Description from the seller
The only monograph available of Alix Cléo Roubaud. An intimate and deeply "experimental" work.
"To work like a painter, elements of rhythm, density, repetition essentially photographic. The singular to be repeated until dance, until song."
Alix Cléo Roubaud
Until 2009, Alix Cléo Roubaud's work had been almost entirely forgotten. Jacques Roubaud had at his disposal the six hundred fifty-two photographs dumped together after her death. These images have today joined the prestigious collections of various institutions (BnF, Musée national d'art moderne, Maison européenne de la photographie, etc.). The BnF received two sets, which constitute a fund of 148 unique prints. The present work presents photographs from these different fonds, in order to give an exhaustive view of the photographer's work: a work that is at once intimate, anchored to her biography—herself, her close ones, her familiar objects, her medications, her addictions—and deeply experimental. Alix Cléo indeed considered the negative as "the painter's palette": once the desired print was obtained, the negative was destroyed. There are therefore very few prints, all made by her own hand.
highly sought-after and extremely rare publication
