Jean-Daniel Lorieux is one of the most famous French fashion photographers of the 20th century. He was born in 1937 in Paris into a family of industrialists. Fleeing the rigor of Jesuit education, he took refuge in theatre and attended René Simon’s drama courses.
However, his dreams of cinema were thwarted by the Algerian War. Indeed, he was mobilized on site as a photographer during his military service. He photographed the horrors of war. This period marked him, giving rise to the determination to make cheerful photographs, full of sun and love. He achieved it.
The LORIEUX style: sensuality, a touch of provocation, and a zest of chic.
He established his style with idyllic photographs, always surprising, mixing eroticism and happiness. The joyful sensuality that emanates from his work blends with provocative humor. His colorful photographs elevate his exceptional models. From great models such as Claudia Schiffer or Stephanie Seymour, to actresses like Sharon Stone, and even singers like Frank Sinatra, all have passed before his lens.
Coconuts remains a staple among the masters of sensual photography.
This was the first book published by French photographer Jean-Daniel Lorieux and, since its publication, has become one of his rarest, most prized editions. Working as a fashion photographer for Vogue, L’Officiel, Dior, Lanvin, Celine, Cardin, Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent, Boucheron, Leonard, this strikingly designed folio captures sun-kissed and airbrushed swimwear models, in saturated colors, across sun-drenched locations such as Monte Carlo, Mexico, Djerba, Tunis, Brazil and Panama.
Some of the models featured are: Brooke Shields, Debbie Dickinson, Kirsteen Price, Anne van Brussell, Paulina Porizkova, Alexandra Stewart, Cathy Myers, Beverly Johnson, Anneli, Gina, Mika. Celebrities include: Glenn Ford, Mireille Darc, Marie-Josée Noiret? (note: this seems to be a misprint—Mireille Darc is correct; “Mariene Jobert” likely meant “Marie-José Nat” or “Michele”—keeping as in original: Mariene Jobert? Isabelle Adjani.)
This is pure 1980s summer fantasy mode, the way only Love Me Tender could capture so well in book form.
Excellent condition, jacket without defect which is very rare to find.
