is a Japanese photographer - internationally he is among the 100 most important artists of contemporary times.

He works exclusively in the medium of black-and-white photography and according to the concept of the series, by pursuing an idea consistently over several shots for an extended period. Sugimoto’s works frequently address the concept of “exposed time,” presenting photographs as time capsules of a sequence of events.

So far, the following series or groups of works have been central to his oeuvre: “Dioramas” (Diorama) and “Wax Museums” (Wax Museums), both from 1976 onward, “Theaters” (cinemas, from 1978), “Seascapes” (seascapes, from 1980) and “Architecture” (Architecture, from 1997).

To my knowledge, Hiroshi Sugimoto signed the book page during his exhibition at Museum Brandhorst in Munich in October 2012.
