Oliver No. 5 - Typewriter - 1900-1910

Oliver No. 5 "Standard Visible Writer" – circa 1908/1909 – Working – Serial number 41564

A beautiful and iconic Oliver No. 5 Standard Visible Writer, manufactured around 1908-1909. The Oliver is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable typewriters ever built, with its characteristic "batwing" construction that gives the typist direct visibility of the typed text.

This example is in beautiful, original condition and is working. The machine has been carefully serviced, fitted with a new ink ribbon, and types properly. All keys function and the carriage moves smoothly.

A special detail is the original pencil holder above the writing line. It is equipped with a new pencil. In combination with the tabulator, this allows a horizontal guide line to be drawn on the paper—an ingenious feature from the early days of the typewriter.

The machine bears serial number 41564, consistent with an early-produced Oliver No. 5 example.

Note: a black/red universal ribbon is currently installed.
The machine was originally intended for a black ribbon; therefore the print on some areas may appear slightly less uniformly black. This does not affect the machine’s operation.
