Tibetan hand-knotted rug from China, wool on cotton, mid-20th century, 339 by 256 cm, model Tibet – cleaned, generally in good condition.
Description from the seller
-- "Special & semi-antique Tibet, impressive rug in beautiful condition"
-- Professionally cleaned*
-- ca. 160,000 knots per m²
-- With Certificate
*Before entering our warehouse, cleaned at a laundry specialized in hand-knotted rugs, then not used again.
This is a hand-knotted Oriental rug, made from durable, natural materials. The way of knotting and diversity in patterns make this rug a unique piece and emphasize its authentic and artisanal character.
This concerns an excellent used rug with an extremely long lifespan.
This is a lightly used, cleaned rug that can be laid this way. This beautiful Tibet is hand-knotted circa 1960 with the finest, undyed wool sourced from sheep in the high Tibet region. This wool is naturally extra greasy due to the cold temperatures (acts as an insulator for sheep). When this wool is used in rugs it not only provides a beautiful, extra sheen but also as a natural protective layer. Wool of better quality is (almost) not to be found. Naturally, color variation is visible among themselves, due to the wool that is NOT bleached before the first dye bath. This gives the rug an authentic appearance, and contributes to the character of this rug that is full of stories.
Main color: Coral/Red
Accent colors: Cream and black
Special features: Rich abrash (natural color differences); Much sheen; Beautiful clean and fresh; Full, thick and cushioning rug; Gorgeous shine; Depending on viewing angle this rug has a lighter and a darker side; Impressive rug; Special object; Characterful; Semi-antique.
Signs of use: Minimal edge damage spots, despite still an impressive rug in good condition (photo 15).
