Box - Silver

Magnificent cylindrical silver box of Chinese manufacture, produced during the 20th century and decorated with an exceptional relief inspired by Taoist tradition.

The lid is dominated by a carefully crafted depiction of Lao Tze, the legendary philosopher and founder of Taoism, mounted on an ox while holding his staff. The scene unfolds among trees and stylized vegetation, traditional iconography that symbolizes wisdom, serenity, and the spiritual path.

The body of the box features elegant engraving with geometric friezes inspired by the Greek Key motif and ornamental characters of Oriental influence, creating an attractive contrast between satin-finished surfaces and the reliefs.

At the base it preserves a square maker’s mark with Chinese characters, indicative of its origin and of the traditional Chinese silversmithing production of the 20th century.

This is a decorative and collectible piece, very interesting both for its artistic quality and for the richness of its symbolism, suitable for collectors of Oriental silverware, Asian art, and objects inspired by Taoism.

Condition: Good overall condition. Shows light signs of use and a homogeneous patina in keeping with its age, with no major dents or appreciable restorations.
