An ethnic belt with pendants made from kauri shells, probably originating from Northeast India or Myanmar (Burma). The pendants are tied to the leather belt with cords, which is completely covered with shells (see the photos). The kauri shells are of great importance to many indigenous communities in this region. They symbolize wealth, fertility, and spiritual protection. Wearing kauri shells is considered a tribute to the gods, and therefore they are incorporated into clothing, bracelets, belts, and necklaces.

The height with pendants is 16 cm.  The leather part is 3.5 cm. Weight is 805 grams.

Etnische riem met hangers van kauri-schelpen, waarschijnlijk afkomstig uit Noordoost-India of Myanmar (Birma). De hangers zijn met touwtjes vastgemaakt aan de leren riem, die volledig bedekt is met schelpen (zie de foto's). De kauri-schelpen zijn van groot belang voor veel inheemse gemeenschappen in deze regio. Ze staan symbool voor welvaart, vruchtbaarheid en spirituele bescherming. Het dragen van kauri-schelpen geldt als een eerbetoon aan de goden en daarom worden ze verwerkt in kleding, armbanden, riemen en halskettingen.
