Description from the seller
A finely worked Chinese export solid silver bowl. The bowl is extensively decorated in pierced, repoussé and chased work with multiple sinuous dragons amongst scrolling clouds and waves. Several dragons are depicted pursuing flaming pearls, a traditional symbol associated with power, wisdom and prosperity. The openwork decoration is particularly detailed, with finely rendered dragon scales, expressive heads, cloud scrolls and raised pearl motifs. The underside is also pierced and decorated with a central coiled dragon surrounded by clouds.
The base is marked “WH”, “求記” and “90”. “WH” is the retailer’s mark of Wang Hing, a prominent Chinese export silver firm associated with Canton and Hong Kong. “求記” is the Chinese artisan or workshop mark, while “90” denotes an approximate silver fineness of 900/1000. Dating from the late 19th century.
Size
Diameter 12.5cm × Height 5.8 cm
Weight: 164 gram
Condition:
In excellent overall condition, with only minor surface wear, light tarnishing and small signs of age and use. No major damage or repairs observed. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description.
