Traditional African wooden mask – West African style
Beautiful decorative African mask, executed in the traditional style of West Africa, with influences from the art of the Guro and Baule peoples from Ivory Coast.
The mask is made of wood and richly painted with decorative pigments in red, black, yellow and blue. The sides are finished with natural fibers/twine details. The elongated face, closed slit eyes, narrow nose and open mouth with visible teeth give the mask a distinctive and expressive appearance.
On the forehead and cheeks traditional scarification marks are depicted, while the colorful crest on the head is a striking stylistic feature that often refers to symbolism, status or spiritual meaning within African mask art.
