Description from the seller
Miniature silver-gilt box in the shape of a pumpkin – late 19th / early 20th century
Elegant and refined miniature box made of silver with gilded interior, crafted in a charming stylized pumpkin shape, a typology highly valued within European decorative arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The lid features an extraordinary sculptural relief with a naturalistic composition of leaves and an ornamental bird, while the body develops a relief vegetal decoration of great artistic richness. The interior retains an attractive gilded finish that provides contrast and refinement.
During the historicist period and Art Nouveau, small decorative boxes inspired by natural elements — fruits, vegetables, flowers and animals — were especially popular, intended to hold small personal objects, jewelry, sweets, perfumes or powders.
By style and artistic execution it can be attributed to European continental production, circa 1880–1910.
Measuring:
• Length: 6 cm
• Width: 3.5 cm
• Height: 3.5 cm
• Weight: 39 g
Material: silver with gilded interior
Period: late 19th – early 20th century
Very good overall condition.
Very decorative and elegant collectible piece.
