Description from the seller

UV Checked

Covered teapot
Polychrome glazed porcelain
China, Guangzhou (Canton) workshops
Late 19th century
Height: 17 cm
Width (spout to handle): 22 cm
Body diameter: 13 cm

Tall cylindrical teapot resting on a ring foot, equipped with a straight tubular spout, an angular lateral handle, and a slightly domed lid with a summit knop highlighted in gold.

The decoration, extremely dense, is organized in reserve cartouches alternating scenes of interior figures (women and children, furnishings, pavilions), floral medallions and birds, peonies, butterflies, fruits and branches.

The reserves are framed by emerald-green and pink foliate scrolls, with yellow and gold highlights. The vivid palette (magenta pink, green, yellow, blue, iron-red) and the narrative treatment of the figures perfectly correspond to the Canton export style, produced for the Western market. Spout and handle left white, simply outlined with gilded borders, in line with a common practice in these workshops.

Unmarked base, which is normal for these commercial productions.
Teapot for domestic service or ceremonial display, intended for export trade (Europe/United States).

Condition:

Good overall condition. Signs of wear, light gilding wear, small impurities and firing marks in the body. Some age spots inside. No cracks or restorations. Observed under UV.

Provenance: Portuguese Collection - Kanaka The Collection

Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
