Beryl is a mineral with the formula Be3Al2(Si6O18) belonging to the same-named group. It should not be confused with chrysoberyl, so called for its yellow-gold color (from the Greek χρυσός, gold), which is a beryllium aluminate but belongs to the spinel group, and its most well-known varieties are alexandrite and cymophane.
