Accuphase - E-202 with Wooden Case - 100v Solid state integrated amplifier

The first model in a series of integrated amplifiers developed by leveraging the technical achievements of the -300 and C-200.

The output stage employs a parallel push-pull configuration using large-size power transistors. Furthermore, by thoroughly optimizing the bias current in each stage, distortion at low output levels has been eliminated, resulting in improved sound quality even at low output levels.

The power supply section is equipped with a large power transformer and two 20,000 μF filter capacitors.
By implementing a constant-voltage design for all amplification stages except the output stage, stable operation is achieved even in the face of power supply voltage fluctuations.

The equalizer amplifier section consists of a three-stage direct-coupled differential amplifier with a constant-current load, achieving excellent linearity; furthermore, the use of a dual-power-supply configuration increases the allowable input voltage range.
It also features the Low Enhancement switch and a disc-specific subsonic filter found in the C-200. The Low Enhancement function corrects subtle presence that cannot be adjusted via the tone controls, while the disc-specific subsonic filter prevents feedback caused by motor vibration or tonearm resonance.
The DISC1 input is equipped with a 6 dB variable attenuator and an impedance selection switch.

The tone control employs a step-selector system with a fixed turnover frequency.
Additionally, a dedicated switch is provided to allow comparison with a flat response and to turn the tone control on and off.

To ensure compatibility with speakers designed during the vacuum tube era, the amplifier features a switchable damping factor with three selectable settings.

It is equipped with a speaker protection circuit; if a short circuit occurs in the wiring downstream of the output terminals or if a malfunction occurs inside the E-202, a relay cuts off the power to protect the speakers.
Furthermore, like the P-300, it has a built-in impedance detection circuit that prevents the relay from engaging if a short circuit is detected in the wiring downstream of the speaker terminals before the power is turned on.
