Portuguese secretary desk in mahogany, solid and veneered, antique style from the 20th century, with 11 drawers and dimensions 145 × 80 × 79 cm, in good condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Portuguese mahogany secretary, with twisted and tremidos - 20th century. Impressive center secretary, Portuguese workmanship from the first half of the 20th century, made of solid and veneered mahogany, in line with the taste of Portuguese Baroque furniture of the National Style, inspired by models from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Rectangular in form, it features a raised top with a carved edge, three drawers at the waist, and eight drawers distributed across the two side blocks, for a total of eleven drawers. The front is structured by spiraled or “twisted” columns, tremidos moldings, protruding tablets and abundant geometric decoration. The hardware is cut and pierced in gilded brass. The rear face is also worked, with geometric panels, metal applications and turned columns, allowing the secretary to be placed in the center of a room or office.
Set on molded and cut-out bases, ending in ball feet. It shows scratches, small marks, surface wear and other signs compatible with age and use.
This typology is usually catalogued as Portuguese production of the 20th century, although it reproduces the decorative language of Portuguese twisted and tremidos furniture from the Baroque period.
