Technics SB-7 Honeycomb Disc Speaker System – Vintage Hi-Fi Speaker Pair Made in Japan

For sale, an original pair of Technics SB-7 Honeycomb Disc Speaker System, produced in Japan by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and part of the prestigious Honeycomb Disc series, among Technics’ most interesting high-fidelity creations from the late seventies to the early eighties.

The SB-7 are 3-way 8 Ω speakers, characterized by the renowned Honeycomb Disc technology, developed by Technics to achieve membranes that are extremely rigid and light. The woofer and midrange diaphragms feature a sophisticated aluminum honeycomb sandwich structure (Honeycomb), inspired by aerospace panels: a design solution aimed at reducing resonances and distortions, improving precision, dynamics, and transient response.

The system uses a 30 cm Honeycomb Disc woofer, a Honeycomb Disc midrange, and a refined rectangular ribbon tweeter (Ribbon Tweeter), a rare solution particularly appreciated by audiophiles for its fast transient response and the naturality of the high end.

The speakers also retain the original mid and high frequency adjustment controls and the integrated Technics protection circuit, elements that testify to the high design quality of the series.

This pair has always belonged to my private collection and has been used exclusively in a domestic environment. The speakers are fully original and have never been repaired, modified, or tampered with.

The cosmetic condition is very good, with light and physiological signs of aging compatible with their age. Original labels, serial numbers, and all original construction elements are present.

Due to a relocation to another city, the last operating test dates from about a year ago, when both speakers were functioning perfectly. It is currently not possible to repeat the test, as I no longer have a compatible Hi-Fi system. For fairness to potential buyers, this circumstance is explicitly disclosed.

Because of the nature, weight, and dimensions of the speakers, the sale is strictly for local pickup in Palermo (Sicily, Italy).
