Description from the seller

Set of 2 Poêle Stools by Philippe Starck, produced by Alessi
Brilliant 18/10 stainless steel design. Structure in brown-stained beech wood.
The Poêle stool was presented at Milan Design Week 2023, as part of Alessi's Ars Metallica exhibition.

Philippe Starck humorously recounts the surprising genesis of his stool: “The starting point of the Poêle chair is a very serious joke, with a sketch of a frying pan with feet and the brilliant idea of adapting existing high technology to different ends. The seat and backrest are inspired by a frying pan, the feet forming the handles. The Poêle chair elegantly embodies the finest proofs of human intelligence: humor and technology. Exactly like my relationship with Alberto and Alessi.”

In its literal reference to the “frying pan,” this collection pays homage to Alessi’s identity, which has been manufacturing the highest-quality table and kitchen utensils for over a century. “Poêle Collection” explores the expressive potential of metalwork through Philippe Starck’s vision. The result is a family of small furnishings where the metal element gains an astonishingly fluid materiality, enveloping the wooden elements with an unexpected harmony. Wood and steel: two opposite materials that pair perfectly for a premium effect.

Combining tradition and innovation, industry and craft, these exceptional pieces are made in Italy. They illustrate the extraordinary know-how of Alessi’s metallurgist artisans. Possessing a strong contemporary identity, this collection will surely become a new design classic rooted in and sustainable. A collection capable of fitting into any space, at home and in the office or in high-end hotel projects.

Philippe Starck

An internationally renowned creator with protean ingenuity, he has always focused on the essential: a vision that creation should improve the lives of the greatest number. Through iconic objects such as the Juicy Salif citrus press for Alessi, the Louis Ghost chair, and the Masters chair produced by Kartell, he fully embodies the idea of democratic design of which he is one of the pioneers.

Deploying his prolific work across all domains—from everyday products like the Miss Sissi lamp to architecture projects, including naval and space engineering—he has consistently pushed the boundaries and criteria of design. This global and accessible approach makes him one of the most visionary and recognized creators on the contemporary international scene.
