Large English mahogany bookcase – 19th / early 20th century – 3 elements – Integrated desk
Magnificent Victorian-style English bookcase in figured mahogany, composed of three elements (a central section with two doors and two side sections), resting on a detachable two-part base (top and bottom).
This bookcase stands out for the quality of its cabinetmaking, its elegant wooden lattice glazing with rosewood muntins, its curved uprights, its oval brass handles and its superb rosewood veneer with warm reflections.
The central body is equipped with a large secretaire drawer arranged with many mail compartments and a small keyed safe, a characteristic feature of prestige English libraries intended for study rooms or private libraries.
The lower part offers ample closed storage space behind solid doors.
High-quality rosewood veneer with very marked grain;
Rounded uprights (angle columns) very characteristic of English furniture;
Original geometric rosewood glazing;
Recessed oval brass handles;
Three large drawers arranged as mail filing drawers, typical equipment of English standing library-desk units;
Lower doors intended for storing files or large volumes.
Mail compartments, cubbies, small safe that locks.
Condition
Glazing panels intact;
Nice original patina;
Some normal signs of use;
