Description from the seller
Old miner's oil lamp called “rave” – long hook and rooster-shaped cap – France ca. 1900.
Old French oil miner's lamp, called “rave” or “lampe de Saint-Étienne,” probably dating from ca. 1900.
It consists of a round, flattened metal reservoir, a spout intended to receive the wick, a decorative cap in the shape of a rooster, and a large suspension bracket.
It also retains its long antique hook, allowing the lamp to be suspended from the gallery support or raised to illuminate the upper parts of the mine.
Beautiful old patina and signs of use in keeping with its age.
Authentic item linked to French mining history, sought after by collectors of antique lamps, mining tools, and folk art.
