Incredible antique French mirror cabinet in wood from the early 19th century, with a cover in carved and gold leaf gilt brass, featuring an elegant architectural profile known as a “ear” and neoclassical decorative motifs. The linear structure and geometric motifs (such as egg-and-dart molding and the inner dentil pattern) strongly evoke Neoclassical taste and the Empire Style, which flourished between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The protruding “ear” corner is embellished with a carved rose in bas-relief; the inner battuta (in contact with the glass) presents a dense row of bossing and relief spherical pearls, and there is a beautiful putto carved on the upper pediment. The mirror glass shows characteristic oxidation and dark speckling, an indication of ancient mercurial mirror backing.
