Description from the seller
Jewelry box or trinket casket in gilded bronze or brass, of fine French craftsmanship, presumably dating from the 19th century, in the pure aesthetic tradition of the Napoléon III style.
The most remarkable feature of this piece lies in its lid, adorned with two oval medallions housing miniature portraits of exceptional delicacy, hand-painted and protected under glass.
These faces, imbued with elegance and softness, contrast magnificently with the body in bronze, whose surface is finely chased and engraved with refined decorative motifs.
Dimensions: 9.5 cm x 6 cm x 2 cm
Weight: 70 g.
Kept "in its original condition" and having undergone no intrusive restoration, this box displays a superb patina and legitimate wear marks. The original gilding has faded in places, revealing the warm reflections of bare bronze; there are also a few scuffs.
Far from being defects, these small time-stains are the guarantors of its authenticity and fully contribute to its romantic charm and its old-world soul. They do not diminish the overall beauty of the piece.
A rare and characterful collector’s item, perfect for lovers of small period furniture, enthusiasts of miniature portraits, or to complete a display case of objets d’art. A unique opportunity to acquire an authentic witness to French know-how of the 19th century.
Prompt and careful shipping.
