"The Farewell" – Popular sculpture, recomposed stone couple, signed AM.
Moving sculpture that portrays the heartbreaking moment of a farewell: a woman and a man, tightly embraced hand in hand, seem to be saying goodbye to someone dear who is about to depart. The woman, with her head covered by a shawl, clings to the man, with a wide-brimmed hat, in a gesture of mutual support before the melancholy of separation.
The gaze of the two figures is what makes this work truly special: the eyes deeply incised convey an piercing intensity, almost biteful, able to tell the silent pain of those who stay and watch a loved one leave.
Made of recomposed stone with a porous, granular surface, with a warm sand/ochre patina that enhances its rustic and authentic charm. On the back of the base is the engraved signature "AM", probably referring to the artist/sculptor.
