Pair of Bencini Comet 127 S cameras – Unique Custom Edition / Art-Camera: "Steampunk" & "Giuseppe Verdi Opera"
Lot description:
In this auction an exclusive pair of vintage Bencini Comet 127 S cameras (made in Italy by C.M.F. Bencini Milano in the 1950s), skilfully restored and transformed into true one-of-a-kind works of art.
The original plain black leatherette in plastic has been completely removed and replaced with two custom author coatings, reinterpreting Italian industrial design in two opposite and fascinating cultural and visual directions.
The "Comet S" Steampunk: A tribute to the retro-futuristic aesthetics of steam and the early industrial era. The coating features ultra-fine geometric details with gold gears, vacuum tubes, gauges and copper tubing on a dark background. It wonderfully complements the camera’s shiny aluminum alloy body.
The "Comet S" Giuseppe Verdi: A celebration of the great Italian opera. The graphic coating evokes a dynamic theatrical collage in tones of gold, black and burgundy. On the body and back of the camera stand the names of the Maestro of Busseto’s most celebrated works, such as Aida, Rigoletto and La Traviata, enriched with musical notes and theatre masks.
Conditions:
Aesthetics: discreet cosmetic conditions (as in the photos). The cast aluminum bodies retain their original luster, with minimal and normal signs of time that add further vintage charm. The new coatings have been applied with millimetric precision.
Mechanical: The shutters click, the timing and focusing rings turn freely. Being customized collectible objects (Art-Cameras), they are sold mainly as display pieces, design items and collections, not tested with recent film (127 format).
Included accessories: leatherette-like cases (visible in the photo).
