Ancestor ceremonial seat. These pieces represent one of the main symbols of the AKAN chieftaincies, originating in Ghana (formerly the Gold Coast). It represents the wealth and prosperity of the ASHANTI people. Its power is sacred and goes beyond the cult of ancestors.
When a king dies, this seat will be jealously preserved in a sacred place, alongside those of his predecessors.
The slightly curved top of the seat is supported by four supports or columns surrounding the central pillar, all resting on a rectangular base.
Wood with a beautiful patina of use.
